I am not a film student (maybe that's the reason I failed to see what most people seem to), but I watched it for one reason: It was Charlie Chaplin's favorite movie. It may have been a good movie then but seeing such a movie now it fails to impress me. I know it wouldn't be fair to compare but Metropolis, which released just a couple of years after Battleship, is way ahead in all aspects from direction and camerawork to the concept of something so brilliant almost a 100 years ago. I felt Battleship is a very overrated movie.
