[...] Okay, the movie is fabulous - you get that. What blew me away even more was that it was the director’s first-ever feature. First. Ever. Feature. First-ever feature that won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. Why just restrict it to foreign film - it was probably the best film there! Better than The Departed (yes, I know Martin won for his lifetime of achievements, as I shared here). [...]

Yes, they were definitely honoring him for the body of work (and about time too). When I first watched it, I was like "no way is this a Scorsese film" - yes, the range is impressive. I think he needs to continue to make diverse films otherwise where's the challenge for a man who's accomplished so much? :)

Perhaps they were honouring Scorcese for his body of work. (I didn't even recognise it as a Scorcese movie until I read this post)- The other element that I felt was really genius was the casting - I really don't know if Edith Wharton herself could have identified better actors to inhabit these roles! This book is one of my favourite books and the movie just made it more special that almost never happens - it stands testament to Scorcese's genius - I love his versatility - his role as Sykes in Shark Tale is perhaps closer to his persona but Age of Innocence is absolutely perfect!
